Local Artist Emmitt M. Tyler II is “Artists on Art” presenter
Friday, Feb. 28 from 6 – 7 pm at the Swope Art Museum
Emmitt M. Tyler II, who teaches art at Sarah Scott Middle School, will talk at the Swope Art Museum’s Fourth Friday, “Artist on Art,” at 6 pm February 28.
Tyler will show examples of his art which address political and race issues in Terre Haute and the country. “My current study and personal series of art production is centered around politics, racial issues and my Christian faith,” Tyler says.
He believes art can provide meaningful and eye-opening experiences to foster productive dialogue. Tyler points to the works and words of Edward Hopper, whose signature work “Route 6 Eastham” is in the Swope collection.
A Terre Haute native, Tyler is a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo and received his bachelor of fine arts in graphic design and art education at Indiana State University. He also attended Purdue where he played football and also starred at ISU football, 2001-4.
