Yesterday the curator and I retrieved two paintings from the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s conservation lab. They had been sent to conservation because one had an abrasion and both were dirty. The Museum staff keeps a running list of objects that need conservation. Prioritized by the severity of damage and how soon they’ll be exhibited, we try to repair as much damage (usually from aging) as we can afford.

Shown here in the Swope Art Museum’s permanent collection storage area, these paintings will be exhibited as part of our upcoming 70 year anniversary exhibition, John Rogers Cox: Artist and Curator. You’ll have to come to the exhibition to see their new and improved condition!
